Sneaking up on wildlife is one the hardest parts of wildlife photography although without doubt the most important Erik! Thanks for the read.

You have some excellent wildlife shots! What's your method of choice?

I use a ghillie suit quite often Erik.

Oh dang! I haven't tried one of those. Did you make your own?

No, I’m not that crafty!! I just grabbed one off eBay. They are not expensive at all and work very well!

That's next level commitment! I've got to try it!

I’m not a professional photographer or even a very good amateur one, but I do recognize “the creep.” I do this when kayaking (my favorite method of viewing wildlife), and it involves moving my paddle and boat as quietly as possible. I love being attuned to the sound, movement, and sight at the same time, and it frequently pays off. So many paddlers are focused on exercise or speed or play—I like that I focus on something quieter.

Exactly this! When the weather warms up I plan on trying some flat water kayaking myself. Looking forward to it!

Man, this must require the patience of a saint! Beautiful shots!

Let me ask you, how big is the wing span? Are we talking about a huge bird? It's always so difficult to tell in photos.

Thanks! They stand about 4 to 4 1/2 ft tall, but their wingspan can be 5 to 6 ft. I'll let you translate that into Canadian measurements 😆Definitely the largest bird in this region!

Hahaha when talking about height and wing span, we also use feet 😁

Love your way of describing how you move in the forest, fully present and aware. I particularly like the first image of this beautiful bird. Thank you for the read Erik :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's a slower and takes more effort to stay engaged this way, but well worth it!

Yes I agree. I think animals are my favourite subjects. It is so moving when you are given the chance to observe and photograph one in its habitat.

Those close encounters with wildlife can be amazing experiences - always a highlight. I love the nicely blurred background to these images Erik, especially the tighter portraits. Beautiful
