Nicely done! What a sunrise and what a beautiful walk through the forest. Love that you set up shots to capture yourself and, thereby, become a character in the film - in fact, ending with making a cup of coffee. Very cool! Love the music and am now looking forward one day in another film to listening to your narrative overview. I am sure it would be wonderful!

Thanks Jonathan! It would be much easier (and maybe better) to film someone else, but since I'm the only one out there my options are limited! 😁

I experimented with narrating a film while hiking one time. It was so overwhelmingly awkward that I had to stop. I really don't think I'll ever go that route.

I was thinking in post-production....quoting, perhaps, from some of the literary sources you have highlighted previously. Whichever way you go, it's all good! This film is a nice effort and really showcases the hike--congratulations!

Oh as a voiceover! That's an interesting idea that I hadn't considered. I'm starting to think about that!

Great idea with the voiceover- that would b3 a fantastic addition to these!

Thank you Brittany! Filming is fairly new to me, but I feel like I'm improving with each attempt. I'm glad you liked it!

Certainly! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm still figuring it all out, but let me know if I can help in any way.

Wonderful short film Erik. You have inspired me to find myself a better coffee brewing set up!

Haha! Glad to hear it! There are a ton of options for coffee making. This is the one I use. It's the lightest and most packable version I've seen.

Excellent! Thank you Erik.

This is my vote for voiceover- not the entire thing, necessarily, but you could narrate certain parts, or read a quote, and it would add even more to your work (which is already fantastic!)

Ok, it seems that you may be on to something good! My wheels are turning and I'm looking into it. Thanks, Tim!

Maaaan, that was magical. I'm having a shitty life this weekend and your video took me off the ledge 😊

That first piece of music was SO emotive! It took "just a river" and transformed it into a journey. Perfect music selection.

My favorite part was the section where you captured simple water droplets coming over the mossy edge of a rock. You've got such a good eye for simple pleasures.

I hate to hear that you're having a rough time, but I'm glad my little film helped!

I thought those water droplets turned out nicely, too! In a sense it was lucky. I'm still learning this GoPro camera and am discovering that it doesn't focus well on things too close to it. It got these, though!

Turned out perfectly. I think I've asked before but I forget, do you use a gimbal? Your videos are so smooth.

No, the GoPro has pretty incredible internal image stabilization. It is mostly shot hand held or tucked in a front pocket for point of view walking shots. The really smooth clips are the close ups that I slow down to 40% speed!

Wow that IS amazing stabilization!

Beautifully produced video Erik - I really enjoyed coming along on the trip with you (and a much more relaxed journey than your written post!). Just what I needed, thank you.

Thanks James! It's great to hear that the film resonated!

Lovely piece of film Erik. It was nice to see the wider landscape and follow your journey. I think video adds an extra dimension to a photographers work and I wish I had the patience to try it myself! 🙂

I'm very pleased with how these videos complement my photography and writing. You're right about it showing the wider landscape and context of the experience. That needs to be a key element I keep in mind as I make them! Patience to do it is an understatement! I had to teach myself video editing from the ground up, and I still only have a rudimentary understanding of it. Thank you , Gil!

I think you've done it really well. I am not sure I have the time to learn but I can definitely see the advantages of being able to supplement still images with video content.
